Sweet Pepper The Godfather Hybrid - 1 Pkt. (30 seeds)

"It's gorgeous in the garden and delicious on the plate. Plants are loaded with huge, meaty peppers. The best yield and the biggest fruit (7"") you'll get from a frying pepper. Traditionally used green, they're even sweeter when red, about two weeks later. Try some fresh in salads too. Burpee exclusive. Days to maturity, 64, is from time plants are set in garden. For transplants add 8-10 weeks. Space plants 18-24"" apart. Grow in full sun

"It was a horrible year for the garden. Two freak late frosts, persistent cold nights, and continuing dampness caused real problems. A horrible fungus attacked all my pepper plants, turning them completely black and causing them to wilt to nothing. This was my first year with the Godfather plants. Determined to not lose our investment, my husband stripped the plants completely, leaving just the main stem. Lo and behold, the Godfathers came back with a vengeance, producing huge bushes and inundating us with great tasting peppers. Turns out after talks with my neighboring gardeners that I was the only one with peppers to harvest that year...everyone else's had succumbed. Go Godfather! I will plant this every year."

My Hands Down Favorite Pepper, July 15, 2008
Submitted by ChristyACB from Norfolk, Virginia
"New this year to my garden, the Godfather and the Spanish Spice pepper were really show-stoppers for me and delicious additions to meal times.

The Godfather plant grew a bit slowly at first but once the heat really came on, they took off. Beautifully symmetrical, they are lovely in the garden and do attract comment. Before we got consistently hot days, I did have quite a few blossoms not take but suddenly summer came and the plants are simply loaded!

They took on size quickly and so far, not a one of them has lasted long enough to become fully red. We simply eat them too fast!

These are really spectacular when brushed with olive oil, grilled, sprinkled with course salt and then eaten whole, Spanish style. Wonderful Pepper!"

We loved this pepper!, January 15, 2008

"The Godfather Pepper is delicious and versatile. We ate it raw in salads and we had it grilled. I stuffed cooked taco seasoned meat and cheese inside and grilled it. That made a wonderful meal. We highly recommend it."

Extreme Longevity & Taste, January 5, 2008
Submitted by Iodine43 from Lake Butler, FL
"I grew these Godfathers from seed to 1 ft. tall plants; had 12 lost 2. Put in the garden in March (Florida planting time) and in a few weeks had large green & red peppers. Plants lasted until Jan. 2008--covered them for 1st frost in Nov. but the Jan. freeze of 20 degrees killed them. I fertilized twice during season and always had tasty, huge, peppers that are great for freezing, roasting, raw, and stir-fried. Used them green & red; red being the sweetest and green ones more like regular green peppers. Am buying more seeds. Can recommend these peppers for anyone with some or no gardening experience. Found very easy to grow. Also I gave away large amounts to friends up til Christmas."

"I live in Oklahoma City, Ok., and in 2006 we had thirty-eight straight days with the day time temperature between 100 and 107 deg. Everything in the garden had a difficult time. Some how the Godfather peppers lived and when the heat finally broke, produced a fine crop of excellent tasting peppers.

Both the heat and my inexperience should have killedem but even by combining forces, we could not !!"
