"It was a horrible year for the garden. Two freak late frosts, persistent cold nights, and continuing dampness caused real problems. A horrible fungus attacked all my pepper plants, turning them completely black and causing them to wilt to nothing. This was my first year with the Godfather plants. Determined to not lose our investment, my husband stripped the plants completely, leaving just the main stem. Lo and behold, the Godfathers came back with a vengeance, producing huge bushes and inundating us with great tasting peppers. Turns out after talks with my neighboring gardeners that I was the only one with peppers to harvest that year...everyone else's had succumbed. Go Godfather! I will plant this every year."

Will definitely grow these every year,

"The Godfather is a really great pepper. Mine grew gigantically, ranging from 6" to over 9", and very fat and hefty. The flavor is EXCEPTIONAL, simply one of the very best Italian-style peppers I've ever had. My Godfather was not prolific this year, clocking in at 12 pods as of 8/27/09, with the season coming rapidly to an end. Too bad....would've liked a lot more of them. But we had weird weather this year (wet, cold, dark, etc.) and many of my other peppers were low-yield too. The Godfather is amazing for frying, eating fresh, etc - it's versatile. This style of pepper is often eaten green, but I think the complex, rich taste of the Godfather really comes out when it is fully red. At the in-between stage, where it's brown-purple starting to turn red, it has a subtle, sweet taste that is impressive and may be its best use. I will definitely raise a bunch of these next year. Hopefully the yield will be better. If I could get 25 or 30 of these going on one plant, that would really be something."

My Hands Down Favorite Pepper,
July 15, 2008
Submitted by ChristyACB

"New this year to my garden, the Godfather and the Spanish Spice pepper were really show-stoppers for me and delicious additions to meal times.
The Godfather plant grew a bit slowly at first but once the heat really came on, they took off. Beautifully symmetrical, they are lovely in the garden and do attract comment. Before we got consistently hot days, I did have quite a few blossoms not take but suddenly summer came and the plants are simply loaded!
They took on size quickly and so far, not a one of them has lasted long enough to become fully red. We simply eat them too fast!
These are really spectacular when brushed with olive oil, grilled, sprinkled with course salt and then eaten whole, Spanish style. Wonderful Pepper!"
