"We received these seeds from my wife's brother in Dallas. These came in quickly and gave us abundant yields from mid summer and well past the first frost.
Don't leave these on the vine forever as they are smaller than the average eggplant by nature and are supposed to be only slightly larger than an elongated softball. My friends from Italy who have been raising eggplant all their lives thought this was the best they ever had.

I'm planting extra plants for them this year"

"I have grown these eggplant for the last 3 seasons and they are the best by far that I've ever grown or store bought. I have converted anyone I know who formerly hated eggplant to being eggplant lovers. The flavor is excellent with no bitterness at all. You have to pick them at the right time which I've found to be when they are 6 inches long and they will be practically seedless and not tough at all.
These are a staple in my vegetable garden and the plants get to almost 6 feet tall and produce more than I can count."

"I'm really sorry to write this. I've been a Burpee customer for many years and this is the first time I've been disappointed with a product.

I'll start by saying the Purple Rain Eggplant plants are terrific - beautiful and high yielding, and the fruit is beautiful. Heck, here in Miami, the plants are STILL blooming and bearing.
Unfortunately, the beauty is only skin-deep.

Contrary to the product description, the fruit is VERY seedy and VERY tough and bitter. I've roasted it, grilled it, parmesan-ed it. I've salted it to drive out the bitterness. The only way to cook it to any kind of tastiness was long, slow stewing. I even tested our soil.

My husband has made it clear that I should get another variety of eggplant this year."
