"Seeds germinate well, grows well, produces okay, but the flavor just isn't up to the task as compared to others I have grown. Tends to split at the top, and slightly mushy for me.
The Early Girls I grow are smaller but taste much better. I'll be trying more Burpee varieties to find that classic home grown flavor in a larger tomato, but no more Big Boys for me."

"A reliable plant that will provide good yields and good sized tomatoes. There is a reason that this plant helped make the tomato the most popular garden plant in America. While it may not have the same resistance ratings as other hybrids (Celebrity and Better Boy), it seems to perform like the super resistant hybrids. The only knock on this plant is that I think the Better Boy variety shares all of its positives with fewer negatives. That being said, I still find space in the garden for a Big Boy!"

"I don't know why this is still grown. It is a very productive and nice looking tomato but the flavor is so bland, kind of mealy. Hey, if you are in to hybrids, try the Celebrity or the Better Boy which has tons more flavor than this and productivity is equally as good. Really, you can do much better than this tomato variety."
