Hot Pepper Habanero - 1 Pkt. (30 seeds)

"95 days. The famous 10-alarm pepper from the Caribbean. The legendary hottest of all peppers, its name means ""from Havana."" Habanero and its kin long ago migrated from the Caribbean Islands to Central America where they remain extremely popular today. A close relative of the Jamaican Scotch Bonnet, the short, wrinkled, green fruits (1-1/2"" long by 1"" wide) turn orange. To complement its searing heat, Habanero has a delicious, pungent, smoky quality unlike any other pepper; many people find its flavor and aroma irresistible in sauces and salsas.
Days to maturity are from time plants are set in garden. For transplants add 8-10 weeks. Space plants 18-24"" apart. Grow in full sun.

little peppers that could!, August 20, 2008
Submitted by meesh from Northern IN
"This is my first year growing habaneros in containers and it was a sloooow start! I have a container garden blooming away on my apartment patio currently. It doesn't happen quite as fast or bear as heavily as if you'd planted directly in the ground but once you get your positioning right its all gravy from then on out and worth your time if you love to garden and live in a teeny, little apartment. I do not get a ton of sunlight, which peppers definately prefer, but these little fellas are really kicking in now. I had to do some rearranging multiple times to get them the most sunlight possible and nearly gave up on them in the process but am glad that I didn't!!!! I gave them the best oganic potting soil I could afford, a bit of cow manure mixed in, and a bit of sea magic and am finally getting loads of these hot little buggers! I'm growing these habs for my fiance who usually thinks even the hottest peppers aren't all that hot and is not easily impressed. One of these little guys even makes his nose run a bit! So, if you are also growing these habs in a container make sure to fertilize regularly and blast them with sun! And, don't give up on them if it takes a while for them to get growing!"

Must have for a salsa garden, November 10, 2007

"Okay, I have had to take this out of my garden and container it as my kids can not differentiate the hot from the sweet. I'd hate to have them pop one of these in their mouth so I keep all my hots in containers away from them. Thing is I had even more luck with this pepper in the container. I am a huge "pepperhead" and would have to think long and hard if there is a tastier hot pepper out there. We know it is hot but the smoky, sweet flavors it also imparts are hard to beat. Really, one plant folks will do the job, two or three if you want to give some to friends who may love you or hate you for it!"

""What a great pepper." Not really a hot pepper person, but have several friends that are, so I grow this pepper for them. They love the heat!!!!! Entered these beauties in our community fair and received first in "Hot Pepper Class-Round" and Best of Show in the vegetable division. This is a pepper I will plant every year."

"I was a little concerned about this plant, as it didn't yield peppers till late September (I started them at the same time as 2 other pepper types). But I was pleasantly surprised as it seemed to just explode overnight with baby peppers. Very, very hot and excellent for Mexican and Korean dishes, and to make sauce. We picked them and put them right into the freezer...of course, we had to taste one...wow! :)"
