"HEIRLOOM. 35 days. One of the mildest mustards, the leaves are smooth and make a fine spinach substitute, especially in the fall. Seeds germinate and grow quickly in late summer heat, and mature to tender sweetness in cool weather. Thinnings are delicious as fresh snacks or in salads."

Grows like a Weed,
June 27, 2008
Submitted by Chestnut

"I sowed this in rows direct in my lettuce patch along with two blends of lettuce. I thinned the seedlings to about 1" apart. It grows super quick, but slows way down in the summer heat. It is also quick to bolt. The leaves are very thin and smooth, not verigated as the picture shows. Some plants grew with spikey leaves (like a weed)--I gave those to my rabbit. Flavor is spicy, but is more mild when cut small. Unfortunately it is a favorite with slugs. Luckily I had plenty to share! My 10' row (successive plantings) has given me 5 gallon bags of leaves so far and more is coming. [In pic, mustard is the 3rd row, 6th row, and 9th row. You can see the holes from the slugs. Ignore the weeds, please!]"
