Tomato Cages - 1 Pkg. of 4

"What the pros use. Large, sturdy cages help to manage even the biggest tomato plants. These are the ones we use in our gardens at Fordhook Farm to grow big-crop varieties like Brandy Boy, Super Tasty, and Burpee's Supersteak. 4-sided cages provide the ultimate in stabilty. Great for flowers too.
Galvanized wire cages will not rust and will fold flat for easy storage. Each cage is 40"" tall.

Finally, a cage worth buying!, June 28, 2006
Submitted by Heather from Grand Blanc, MI
"These cages are by far the best I have ever used. They are strong, stable, and with the extenders (which I also love) they have the heighth that I need. I have purchased cages in the past that had to be thrown away after 1 season..or broke during first season...NOT these...they are awesome!!!"

Excellent Use for Years, May 21, 2006
Submitted by Pam In NJ from Hudson County, NJ
"I have used these cages for at least 10 years. I have always stacked one on the other and if set properly they have been sturdy and never topple. I check every few days and push any wandering branches back inside the cage. If it gets too crowded you can prune out some of the branches for more light. I plant sugar snap peas around the outside of the cage."

wire tomato cages, February 7, 2006
Submitted by Linda & Arlyce Amrhien from Willard, Ohio
"my husband is 71 yrs. old and I am 62 years old. he still puts a nice garden out...I use oxygen so I'm not able to help outside anymore ........but, with the help of him we canned over 150 jars of tomato products.......56pints alone of salsa.......The tomato cages that we bought from Burpee are amazing. they are so sturdy and held the plants up off the ground and the plants with the cages seemed to have tons more of tomatoes hanging on the vines than the plants without the cages. we have six and i just got another order from you all yesterday.......Keep up the good work BURPEE....."

The Last Tomato Cages you'll buy, June 23, 2008
Submitted by Doll from Eastern Shore, MD
"I bought a set of these cages last year to try but i wanted to wait until the 2nd season of use before I left feedback. I'm not in my second growing season and these cages are awesome. They are very sturdy, fold very easy even after using them. I even left them outside all winter and they were perfectly fine this year. I just received another order of them and I plan to order another set for next year to completely replace all the 'junky' cages i accumulated the past few years. I am SO happy to finally throw away those cheap round cages from the local home and garden store. These cages set up neatly without needed additional support. ALSO... THE RED AUTOMATOR TOMATO AND PEPPER TRAYS THAT BURPEE SELLS FIT PERFECT INSIDE THESE CAGES.. and the trays work great at keeping the soil moist and weed-free around the plants. Another great feature about these is that you can fold them in a V-shape an use them in tight areas or for other vegatable that need some support but not a fully enclosed cage. Sign up for the burpee credit card and get free shipping as well :-)"

best purchase ever, May 12, 2008
Submitted by burpeepal from Dallas, GA
"I ordered the tomato cages last year after struggling to keep my tomatoes off the ground with the cheaper cages. I love these cages. They have enough prongs on the bottom to keep them from falling over and are strong enough to hold the tomato plants in place. Because they fold flat, they are easily stored. I would highly recommend them to fellow gardeners."

Best I've used, September 15, 2007
Submitted by marshathegardener
"Embarking on a trial and error process of finding the best tomato cages for my small Michigan garden, I read the other reviews before purchasing four of these cages this year. I have to say that Burpee cages are the best I've used. I had a wind storm a few weeks ago and none of my Burpee cages tipped over nor did any of my plants (in Burpee cages) suffer any wind damage. I cannot say that for the other cages I bought from local garden centers- a pricey cage from a garden center tipped over, almost destroying the entire plant. My only regret is that I did not buy the extenders. There's always next season :) My plants in Burpee cages did not suffer wilt like the plants in the other cages--I attribute this to better air circulation due to cage construction."

tomato cages collape, September 12, 2007
Submitted by Trun
"I ordered the cages with the extensions for my tomato plants this year. Big mistake. The plants totally destroyed the cages. the extensions couldn't take the weight of the plants and collapsed. I reinforsed the sides and added additional ground stakes. No help. Plants fell over and I needed to put in bigger stakes to hold it all up.
However, I did use the seaweed concentrate fertilizer on the plants in the beginning and I have never had so much growth & flowering on my tomatoes! so much the cages couldn't handle the growth.
Hindsight I continue with the seaweed concentrate but forget the flimsy cages."

Yes to cages! No to 'extenders' !, June 29, 2007
Submitted by Lucytomato
"I've
been using these tomato cages for years and years...they are absolutely
the best! When I first started using them, Burpee recommended fitting
another of the same type of cage into the top of one to extend it. This
works very well, and I continued to do this until one year they came
out with "Tomato Cage Extenders," so I thought, OK, I'll give them a
try. Besides being $5 less than purchasing a new set of cages, there is
nothing to recommend them. They are difficult to assemble, practically
impossible to disassemble, and are not really any sturdier than just
fitting one cage into the top of the other! So just buy more
cages...you'll be happier!"

Bounty in a Cage, June 11, 2007
Submitted by Oldthumbs from Northern Illinois
"I have finally found the answer to my tomato support problem. I've used stakes and have made my own tomato cages before, but I have to admit that nothing I tried has been as easy to use, has lasted as long, or has been as easy to store in the off season as these cages.

For indeterminate tomato varieties, it's almost a necessity to get the extenders, or an additional cage that you can stack on top of the first cage. I also use tent stakes to help hold the cages to the ground. While they may not be absolutely necessary, I'm a belt and suspenders type of guy.

Now that I've used these tomato cages, I would hate to have to go back to other methods."

BEST TOMATO CAGE !!, October 6, 2006
Submitted by TomB from Oklahoma City, OK
"Once again I learn: "There ain't no free lunch !!"

This year, I had my first garden in about 50 yrs and had the (dis)pleasure of buying everything new. I purchased five (5) different tomato types of cages - about seventy (70) in all - and only THIS heavy duty professional tomato cage works well. Heck, this cage (even with extender for larger plants) works REALLY WELL. (Solid as the proverbial rock with only the base cage AND with the extenders - anchors come with the extender package.)

I plan on planting forty (40) tomato plants in 2007 and have just finished ordering the balance (plus extenders) needed to use this cage exclusively on all forty tomato plants. I used twenty-five this year. (I got a sale on (30) slightly used 'other' tomato cages if anyone is interested ! Actually I plan to use some of those 'lesser' cages for peppers. Just don't love my peppers as much as I do my tomatoes.) It is worth mentioning that I live In Oklahoma where 'the wind comes sweeping (but NOT gently) cross the plain................' These cages handled 35-50 mph winds this year with no negative results.

Back to that non-existant 'free lunch'.............THESE CAGES COST MORE but with superior design, rock solid stability even in high winds, capability to handle very large plants and the ability to fold flat for storage in the off-season are WELL WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY.

Novice-gardner-but-I'm-learning - AGAIN.........Tom

(PS I got the tomato cage problem nailed. Now, if any of YOU can tell me how to grow lots of good tomatoes when the day temp is between 100 deg F and 107 deg F for 38 days straight.................)"
