Great fun with kids, February 23, 2008

"My 7 year-old son gave me this mix for Mother's day last spring. I was delighted but skeptical as I haven't had great success sowing outdoor from seed in the past, and we didn't get the seeds in the ground until the end of May. However, I figured we had nothing to lose and at the very least we would have fun planting them together.

Let me just say--WOW. We had gorgeous blooms that knocked our socks off into October! It was great fun to check the garden each morning to discover what was new--and aside from watering (it was in full sun) was very little maintanence. It is worth mentioning not everything came up (the cornflowers didn't sprout at all) but everything else was so full and vibrant, we didn't miss them too much. We can't wait to do this again this year!"

"I purchased this collection both in 2005 and 2006. In 2005 I tried starting plants indoors and transplanting as the individual seed packages suggest. I didn't have too much success, as many of the small starts didn't make it, which may have been my fault . . . not hardening them off properly or something.

However, in 2006, I thought I'd give it one more try. Instead of going through the labor of starting indoors, I prepped the bed and sowed right into the garden. It took awhile for things to get going, but once they did, I had amazing color from the end of June through the end of Sept., with very little maintenance on my part. Seems like the less I fussed with them the better these plants did."

"I bought this mix because it said it can be sown directly in the garden. reading this, I expected all relativly FAST growth and blooming. When I got the product, I found out that many of the flowers were really supposed to be planted indoors 6-8 weeks before planting outside. So, let the buyer beware...this mix is not exactly as billed.

So far, the plants look good. I was just a little disappointed that the product is not exactly as it was advertized"
