A true gem among vines, April 22, 2006

"I love this vine and grow it every year from Burpee seed. I've found it just as happy to ramble as to climb, and it will loosely twine around roses and all other standing plants. The overall effect is an extremely feathery pine with crimson flowers floating above it. These plants really must be seen in person as photos flatten the beautiful full foliage. It is never fussy, nor have I ever had a single pest problem."

Cardinal Climber, June 18, 2008

"I have grown this vine for years. My daughter in law brought me one single vine and I planted it beside my chain link fence. It bloomed that summer and every year after that. Because I live in Fl. it spreads it's own seeds and comes up every year thicker and more beautiful then the year before. It's like a sprinkle of lush red flowers dotting a blanket of green feathery foliage draping over my fence. It's just beautiful."

Crowns of Glory, May 22, 2008
Submitted by Fayola from Chicago, IL
"The vines enthwine to form beautiful crowns of delicate bright flowers.I planted these last year near a fence and they grew and grew with so many flowers it was a spectacular sight. I will grow them again this year. The actual plant will exceed your expectations...the pictures don't do it justice. I'm still amazed at God's beauty."

Cardinal Climber, January 30, 2007
Submitted by BillR from Vineland (Southern New Jersey)
"I dragged a nail file accross the seeds which I had purchased from Burpee a couple of times and soaked them in water for approximately 18 hours. I then sowed the seeds in a seed starter complete with heating pad and growlux lights. I inserted one seed per pellet which had been soaking under the heating pad for one day. The next day (Monday) to my surprise approximately 12 seeds had germinated by that evening. By Tuesday there were approximately 31 germinated seeds ranging in height from one half inch to two inches to almost three inches. The vast majority were between 2 & 3 inches. So I removed the plastic cover Tuesday evening. I wasn't anticipating germination to occur so fast. If they keep growing at this rate all I have to say is thank God I have a cathedral ceiling because Spring is far off but on the plus side the humming birds may have some climbers in bloom when they arrive."

It's a beauty!, September 1, 2006

"I love this vine! It's a great performer and I've never had any trouble with bugs. Even in our summers which can be very hot and sometimes dry it does well. It is difficult to see how beautiful the frilly, fern-like foliage is and it would be worth growing just for that. But then these beautiful, delicate scarlet red flowers appear and "Wow!"
The only trouble I've ever had with it is finding enough trellis for it to grow on!"
