Fast and Reliable!,
February 1, 2006
Submitted by diymama

"I am using this system for the first time. Last year I lost almost all of my plants to damping off, but with the channeled bottom tray, I didn't lose one! The tray has channels in it that hold water, so the plants wick up water as they need it, eliminating the act of overwatering! I started early, to "iron out the kinks" so to speak, but to my surprise, there were none! I had a lot of problems with other systems in the past. Using the Burpee system, I decided to try a few seeds each of broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, borage, and 4 o'clocks. To my amazement, seeds that usually take 10-14 days, took 24 hours! My broccoli and borage germinated the very next day, and the 4 o'clocks the day after! The whole system was placed in front of a west facing window, over an electric baseboard heater set to 72 degrees. After the plants germinated, I removed them one by one and put them under a flourescent light. They never got leggy, and now I have ready-to-transplant seedlings that have nowhere to go! (I will try to put them in the garden using cloches, after hardening them off.) It is only Feb 1st! (I am in zone 7, where the average date of last frost is around 2-4 weeks before Mother's Day.) All of my seeds germinated in the same way. I now know that this product is as reliable as the rest of Burpee's products! I highly recommend this to anyone who has had a problem with damping off, needs fast germination, or has impatient children. If you are a beginning gardener, this is virtually fool-proof! Happy gardening!"

The Ultimate Growing System,
October 22, 2009
Submitted by Anonymous
from Maryland
"I bought two of these starters and put them on growing mats under grow lights. I was very surprised to see how quickly they germinated. The root systems grew strong and I had no trouble getting them out to transplant into bigger pots with a butter knife. They cleaned up easily and are ready for next springs seeds."

Quite satisfied,

"I was very pleased with this product, which helped sprout my tomatoes. I used the peat pellets. By the time I needed to transplant, roots held soil together well, and I could pop plants out using a stick to apply pressure through the bottom hole. I have reused it twice already for other seeds. I do find it reusable, and a good value."

Good Start But Needs Improvement,
July 23, 2009
Submitted by Ceten

"Like many of the other reviews, I had great success with my seeds. They really took off and grew quickly. However, once they were ready for transplant, it was a nightmare getting my plants (herbs mostly) out of the container. How about not advertising the "reusable" part and just putting a perforated bottom on each cell instead of the little hole? It would definitely be worth the money every season to buy a new one. I wish I had a picture of my mangled tray to show."
