Beautiful and Prolific!, August 24, 2008
Submitted by eaglover from Tuxedo, NY
"This year, I grew Little Mama Tomatoes for the first time, and I plan on growing them in the future! I grew them from seed starting in late March and planted one in late April. I only planted one since I have a small vegetable garden and planted two other tomato varieties. I planted it in a mixture of compost, peat, and vermiculite. After covering the plant at night for the first week to protect it from frost (Zone 6), the plant really began to take off! I started picking ripe tomatoes from it in late June.

The tomatoes themselves are gorgeous and not as "little" as I thought they'd be as implied by the name! Mine have been growing to about 3-4" long with a diameter of about 2+". I have been harvesting about 3 to 4 tomatoes a week from the one plant with just one central stem. I do keep cutting the suckers back, which might be why the tomatoes seem to be growing a little larger than expected.

These tomatoes have been great for all types of salads and on sandwiches, tacos, and a number of other things!

I would recommend this variety of tomato to anyone who is looking for a flavorful, fleshy type of tomato without two much gooey tomato "pulp"!"

Blossom End Rot, July 1, 2008
Submitted by betsy from brooklyn, ny
"I've got 8 varieties of tomatoes growing in containers on my deck, and on this plant I would say 90% of the fruit have blossom end rot. I'm not seeing this on the other plants, so it seems like this variety is more prone to it. I think another person made a similar comment...."

Prolific, December 14, 2007
Submitted by Richard from Clinton, NY
"I have grown tomatoes for over 30 years. The Little Mama tomato is the very best paste tomato I have ever grown. The plants were huge and prolific and almost everbearing in nature. The plants carried no disease and produced right up to frost in upstate New York. The sauce was thick and excellent for cooking or canning. I gave away bushels of the Little Mamas and everyone raved about them. People are now asking me for pants in the spring. The tomato reminds me very much of the San Marzano tomato in shape. I highly recommend to anyone who likes an outstanding paste tomato. They are also excellent for eating."

Little Mama is Huge!, September 22, 2007
Submitted by Mabel
"This plant looked puny when it arrived and I was doubtful that it would survive.
Instead, it has flourished and outgrown the bed. But we don't mind. The tomatoes are plentiful and delicious. The plant is extremely vigorous. It was infested with some little pests, which I sprayed with vegetable-safe stuff, and the tomatoes still kept coming. They are just juicy enough; good for every purpose without a flood of juice."

Prone to blossom end rot, August 10, 2007
Submitted by cbonc
"While we did get many fruits, many if not most were afflicted with blossom end rot. I grew these tomatoes in large whiskey barrels (that were never used before), had drip irrigation, a mild tomato fertilizer when planted, and still had problems.
THe other three types of tomatoes that I gre in the exact same way were fine."

A Most Wonderful Tomato, July 18, 2007
Submitted by anne5525
"Plants are extremely prolific. A hardy plant here in the very hot state of Mississippi. Tomatoes are not too tart, especially recommended for those people with reflux who are bothered by tomatoes. Not quite as juicy as some tomatoes, but the flavor more than makes up for this. This has become our family's favorite slicing tomato."
