Amazing Seed Starter Kit,
February 27, 2006

"This seed starting kit is truly amazing. I got the kit on a Friday planted vegetable seeds that day and by the following Monday half of my seeds had already sprouted. That's just 3 DAYS!"

Functionally Great/Quality Stinks,
June 12, 2009

"The kit started my seeds wonderfully. I even kept them in the containers for quite a long time. However, I'm VERY dissapointed in the quality of the containers. The base is very flimsy requiring 2 hands and even disbursement of cells in it. And the cell packs were so thin that they tore when I got my seedlings out. I was really hoping to use these for several years, not just one."

Great at some things; not at others,

"The wicking mat does its job extraordinarily well. And I solved the flimsiness issue by putting a tray under the kit. The mat pulls up exactly the right amount of water to keep my seedlings growing well. When I take the plants out of the little cells and move them to 3" peat pots, I leave those pots on the mat, and get similar results. The big problem I had is with the growing pellets. They expand too much for the cells, giving me some difficulty when trying to extract the seedlings. I will be using starting soil after the first year's use. Overall I like the kit well enough that I ordered a second one."

I would recommend this to any beginner,

"Why would I recommend this to any beginner? I have tried many ways to start seeds. I'm an admitted killer of seeds. I purchased this system last year in hopes of changing that image. This is the first seed starting system that has actually worked for me! I liked it so well, I bought 3 more, and plan to buy two more this year. All seeds sprouted in alloted time or sooner and THRIVED! I noticed however, the instructions leave a lot to be desired. It doesn't tell you about the proper placement of the pellets. If the pellets are not placed correctly (flat side down) in the cells before adding water, take care not to move pellets when pouring or they will become hopelessly impossible to remove, unless you cut them out, after they expand in the cells. It's all in the placement of the pellets. The cover, should never be used unless in extreme dry conditions otherwise, the soiless growing medium will certainly mold from too much trapped moisture. Most people, do not know how simple growing with soiless mediums can be. I highly recommend checking into it before starting, so you won't be frustrated. Good Luck."
